December 18, 2012 - Lunch at Tim's Backyard BBQ

Y'all want some BBQ for lunch today?  Well then you best saddle-up and head on down to a place called Tim's Backyard BBQ!  If you're into the good spicy taste of southern-style BBQ then this is the place for you!  Early on this place started out as a drive-thru only located off of West Main st. in Medford, Oregon.  Since then they have opened up their own restaurant and prides themselves in serving up the best southern-style BBQ.

Specifically Tim's Backyard BBQ is located at 1124 Court Street (next to the Yellow Submarine car wash place).  You may know this as the old "Mrs. Q's".  Now that you know where it's at let's have a look inside :)

Once inside you simply have a seat wherever you like.  The owner (Tim) and his staff are super friendly and sociable!

A friend and I went and got what you see above.  The plate on the left is a combo: half beef brisket, and half pulled pork - while the dish on the right is their 3-bone pork rib plate (the bone just comes right out of the meat!).  Both are slathered with "Tim's Backyard BBQ Sauce"- his signature southern-style flavor.  It is GOOOOOD!!!!  It has a mild spicy flavor that mixes well with the smokey flavors of the pork and beef.  The cole slaw is spot on and the baked beans also have their own little 'kick' to 'em ;)

This all being said - next time you're in the mood for some GREAT BBQ hit up Tim's Backyard BBQ!  Tim is a super-friendly guy and always takes the time to say hello to his guests, as well as thanking them for coming.  Here he is doin' his thing out at the smoker!!  This is DEFINATELY a great place to dine!  :)

Breakfast on December 9th, 2012

Hey all 12 of you!!  It's been a while, huh ;)  Figured I'd get this blog back in to gear...

This morning I was craving a breakfast burrito.  I went to the fridge and - yep - I have the ingredients ;)  Just a little background on this food we all know so well, the breakfast burrito is normally composed of breakfast items wrapped inside a flour tortilla. This style was invented and popularized in several different regional American cuisines, most notably New Mexican cuisine, Southwestern cuisine, and Tex-Mex. Southwestern breakfast burritos may include scrambled eggs, potatoes, onions, chorizo, or bacon.  "Tia Sophia's", a Mexican cafĂ© in Santa Fe, New Mexico, claims to have invented the original breakfast burrito in 1975, filling a rolled tortilla with bacon and potatoes, served wet with chili and cheese

OK - that all being said - let's make a bacon breakfast burrito - Buddy Looooove style ;) (if I had my own restaurant THIS is how I would do it).  I can guarantee people would be like - GAHT DAYUM - YOU HAD BUDDY'S BREAKFAST BURRITO'S YET??  THEM BABIES KICK MAJOR ASS!!!!

OK - so - here's how it's done.  This is gonna be quick, so - pay attention ;)

I cooked up a small portion of bacon - scrambled 2 eggs (added spices) and sprinkled a good amount of shredded cheese on top - baked up a couple of McDonalds-style hash browns and cut them as shown.  I added the bacon and hash browns to the egg then carefully placed it on a tortilla (that was microwaved for about 15 seconds).  Rolled it up and. . . . .

BOOM!!!!!  I drizzled a few different types of hot sauce on this (my secret ;) and WOAH!!!  THIS was one kick-ass breakfast burrito!!!  The cheese was melted and 'stretchy' - you could taste every ingredient in every single bite (unlike some places where you only get egg and bread for the first few bites).  If you're interested I am available to come to your home and make this for you for a few thousand dollars ;)  Yes...it's THAT good!!

June 22, 2011 - Lunch at Sunrise Cafe

Who's in the mood for Hawaiian food?  ME!!!!!  There are several Hawaiian places to eat here in Medford, but for now I'm going to pay a visit to.....
SUNRISE CAFE
YES!!!  Sunrise Cafe is located on the corner of Central and Main Street here in Medford Oregon.  Fairly new place, hasn't been there for a LONG time, but it should definately be given the Buddy L. taste test ;)   You walk in to the place and you're immediately greeted with kindness, and that you can have a seat wherever you'd like (click the pictures for a larger view):
The place is very comfortable and the music being played was.... Hawaiian?  I dunno - it sounded like 'island music' - pretty cool.  I got the first thing on the menu, which was the Pork Plate.  Just take a gander at this goodness:

This particular dish comes with 2 scoops of steamed rice, a scoop of macaroni salad, a huge portion of pulled pork and a small slice of pineapple.  All i'm gonna say about this is..... holy mary mother of god and baby jesus was this a really REALLY good plate of food!!!!  The pork has a slight smoked flavor to it with other seasonings to set it off!!!  They have a squeeze-bottle of some 'sauce' on each table - I used it on my rice, and a little bit on the pork.  But again - this particular dish is definately one of a kind!!!  I will be going here more often.  I would definately have to rate this place 5 out of 5 stars... but that's just me :)  I'm a food guy, and I loved this food!  Be sure to tell the owner (Ed Chun) hi - he is a SUPER nice guy!!  If you go be sure to post on this thread your thoughts on what YOU'VE had from SUNRISE CAFE!!!

May 31, 2011 - Lunch at "Laughing Buddha"

Folks..... I'm back ;)  I took the long weekend off from posting up, got some much needed rest and relaxation!  How was your Memorial Day weekend??  Did you get away?  Out of town?  Or just lounge in the recliner watching TV?!?  :)

Anyhoo - today's lunch was at a new place here in Medford called:
Laughing Buddha Rice Bowl & Boba Tea
This place is located on the corner of 6th Street and Front Street here in Medford.  The owner says he's only been open for 2 weeks now, so I figured I'd give it a shot!
Inside seemed a little empty, like something was lacking.  I just chalked it up as being a new place and he's still trying to get things under wraps.  I ordered up a "Peanut Sauce Chicken Rice Bowl".  For $5.50 you get a good sized bowl with white or brown rice (i opted for white), chicken pieces, "vegetables" (which consisted of 4 pieces of broccolii) with peanut sauce dripped over it all.

The chicken itself was a little salty; didn't mesh well with the peanut sauce.  The peanut sauce itself was REALLY good though!  Would have been a little better if the sauce was distributed evenly throughout the bowl.  The bowl was pretty deep, so be sure to fully mix together if you get this particular dish.  I'd have to give this place a 5.5 out of 10.  Still needs to get settled in on the inside (furniture, decor, etc) and the menu must be expanded from the 4 items they currently have to choose from.
:)

May 26, 2011 - Lunch at La Tapatia

WHAT'S FOR LUUUUUNCH!!?!?!  Today we're going to try this little hole-in-the-wall restaurant in Phoenix, Oregon called:
La Tapatia
This restaurant sits right on South Pacific Highway just past Roscoe's BBQ on the left.  If you blink, you'll miss it.  Walk in and the front part of the business is a small convenient store selling candies, snacks, drinks, clothing (yes, clothing).  Keep walking to the back and there is a deli counter no the left selling meat, pork, fish products.  STILL walking towards the back you'll get to said restaurant:
On the left side is the counter where you place your order (if you pay by debit you immediately take your receipt to the front and pay up there).  He (the owner) then gives you a number and you find a seat.  The menu is seen just above with green writing.  Just below the menu on the counter are several choices of hot sauce ranging from mild heat to wild heat.  Ladle what sauce you want into the provided small dishes to bring back to your table.  They also have a big bowl consisting of marinated sliced carrots, cut up jalepenos and a few onion pieces.  YUM!!  Plus, on Mondays they have a taco challenge.  If you can eat 30 tacos in 30 minutes - they will give you $50.  if not, you owe them $30 for the tacos ;)

My lunch consisted of a Pepsy with dos pollo tacos y dos asada tacos.  Each taco comes complete with onions and cilantro (unless specified not to).  I prefer the sauce that is one step up from mild.  has a good flavor, plus I like to add a couple carrot pieces and a slice of jalapeno to each taco.

The service in the restaurant is awesome - WAY friendly people.  Super nice.  The meat in the tacos has MUCH flavor, enough to make you want to come back for more!  Be sure to make your way to LA TAPATIA in Phoenix, Oregon!!

May 26, 2011 - Breakfast at Work

Somewhat healthy, ya???  I mean, are breakfasts like this bad by any means?  I'm sure I could have more, but that would mean getting up earlier in the morning and who the heck wants to do that?!?!?  I mean, really...
